How come this thread is in "earth" sciences not "social?

O, O.K.

I listened on a science show to a brilliant American psycologist talk about Consciousness just the other day.( at an International Conference on Consciousness )
It is apparently a hot issue in Psychology today.

I am not sure why.
It seems to me you are, (like computers?) either "on" i.e.,-conscious
or "off" i.e.,-unconscious or dead

I will try and find the radio show link and post it.
