Sounds like a promising and good idea....I'd be impressed if it really could speed things up as much as it claims...Does anyone whether or not storing waste as it currently is underground for 300 years (that's how long it takes if you remove the actinides), if it will break down quicker than it is produced? I'd expect so, but I'm not sure...
But how does it accelerate particles away from the nucleus? If lowering the temperature brings positives closer to the nucleus, then would heating the metal push them away? Also, what about the additional costs for heating/cooling.
