I believe you’re referring to a description of “
quantum teleportation”.
As the linked to wikipedia article explains, theory predicts that neither this technique, nor any other
quantum entanglement-related phenomena, can be used to communicate faster than light (though such a technology, the “
ansible”, has long been a staple of science fiction). It does suggest that it may be possible to use quantum teleportation to create 2 identical objects, like the replicators and teleporters on Star Trek, though without the ability to duplicate existing objects, such as people.
