Are more people born during specific times of the year?

While out selecting birthday presents for several friends, it suddenly occurred to me that most of my closest friends and acquaintances, as well as many family members, have birthdays in June or July. I checked my birthday book, and discovered that no fewer than 15 of them were born in the 41 days from 10 June to 20 July. All but one were born in the Southern Hemisphere, and thus in midwinter.

The next busiest period of the same length started with a birthday on 10 December (exactly six months later) and contained seven people. Of these, four (of six NH people in my book) were born north of the equator, and thus also in midwinter.

The leanest period of this length was late February and the entire March, with a single birthday (born in the Northern Hemisphere).

This got me wondering whether there is something to “spring fever”, and whether humans have a preferential "breeding season". (To be sure, my sample is small enough for chance to account for the phenomenon. Also, I admit to some bias in selecting a period starting and ending with a birthday – but even omitting these birthdays would leave an impressive 13 remaining.)
