Re: North korea
When a nuclear weapon detonates it releases an Electromagnetic Pulse, an EMP. The best way to maximize this EMP is to detonate the nuke in low earth orbit, the US did it once over the mid Pacific Ocean, it shut down everything electrical even sheep shearers as far away as Australia. The damage down was extraordinary considering how small the nuke was and the extent of the damage. Modern electronics are if anything even more susceptible to EMP than 1960's Australia was. All autos, airplanes, computers, banks anything electronic would be damaged, most beyond repair. Things like electric grids would be over loaded and shut down. During the cold war one the of the most considered attack scenarios was to detonate a nuke above a target and knock out everything electrical before invasion instead of actually nuking a place.
