"Wave Power" is not some mystical gift of the faeries. Waves are ultimately powered by the Earth's rotation; tides are ultimately powered by the moon's orbit. The natural state of things has the energy sloshing back and forth as in a radio tank circuit. If you extract energy from waves you slow the Earth's rotation. If you extract energy from the tides you increase the moon's orbital radius.
Neither of those options impresses me as being benign in cumulative effects - or reversible.
