If light did bounce back in this mirror effect that you describe the atomosphere would have to be made of blackhole observations because then light couldn't escape. however locating an axis to our universe may seem more in line because then we could say that it is orbiting. The axis of our planet and its rotatation cause weather patterns if we could locate a weather pattern perhaps the study of solar winds and rains we could have a good idea that our universe is a spherical bound by a crust like the planet has a crust that is what they are talking about on Paradox resolved right now geoengineering and plate tectonics(sp.) If there is a shift plate tectonics of a bounded universe light could escape but only in regions and this may be dectectable.
