[ADMIN] littleray: please read
littleray - the e-mail address you used when you registered with our forums is not valid. Please change it immediately. I get lots of bounced e-mail from replies to threads which you have participated in.
I am sure this is just a mistake, nevertheless I will have to shut down your account in two days if you do not correct this (due to the amount of bounced e-mail).
Keep in mind that our FAQ states that you must provide a valied e-mail address when you sign up.
With regards,
Tormod

Traffic surge - quiz problems
Hi folks -
there is an incredible amount of web traffic at Hypography today...usually there are about 6-7000 visitors on any given day, but today we reached that in 8 hours. I don't know what has happened but this might cause some instabilities - hope for your understanding.
Most of the new visitors seem to be taking quizzes, so if you experience problems with a quiz it might be because of server timeouts.
For all the new folks out there - welcome!

Flag Quiz extended a few days
I have decided to extend the deadline for the Flags of the world quiz until August 20 - I've been too busy lately to write a new quiz. Those who have already submitted correct answers will be counted twice when I draw the winner.

New forum categories
Hi everyone,
I have upgraded the forum software and regrouped the old categories into ten new ones. I hope this will make the forums easier to use, and also inspire lots of new posts! http://www.hypography.com/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif
The "Ask and answer" forum is gone, since it became some kind of "everything goes" category. Just post your questions in a relevant category.
I added a category called the Watercooler - if you're unsure where to put your posting, this is it.

No more anonymous posters
Due to the many recent postings by people who act like they lack a brain - posting silly messages, making fun of our members, and in general proving to be quite incapable of being polite, anonymous posting has now been turned off again.
It was fun while it lasted. Hopefully they will ever discover anything worthwhile, like smelling the flowers or even peering beyond the tip of their nose. Good luck to them.
To all our members - thank you all for staying with us and we hope to see you very often!
If you want to register and become a member, just click on our FAQ link on the top of this page.

To our guests: Please Read!
First of all to our new visitors/members, WELCOME! We would like to make the Hypography Sci-Tech forums as useful and friendly of a place as we possibly can. But to do that, we need your help.
While we appreciate all useful/good input, we ask that you take the time to register as a user in the forums as it only takes a few short minutes.
REGISTER HERE
Edit - Due to abuse, the ability to post as anonymous has been shut off.
Please do consider what you are posting. Flaming of users, inappropriate language, and spamming (posting a link just to get traffic at a site, and/or posting a useless post.) will NOT be tolerated, and will promptly be deleted. If we have problems from a registered member that person will first receive a warning, and continued infractions will result in suspension/banning of that user.
If you have any problems, either with another member or one of the moderators (currently myself and Tormod), please do send one of us a private message (one of the benefits of registering - private messaging). We ask that you do not make a fuss about it in the public forums, but instead contact us first and we will deal with it. If you disagree with something one of the moderators does or says, you can message either that particular person and calmly explain the problem you have, or you can bring it up to another one of us if it makes you more comfortable.
Thank you very much for your cooperation!

Out of 403 replies, 14 got it right. Good work folks! I never thought any of you could actually name 40 capitals! Great stuff.
Anyway, the winner of the book "Around the world in 80 days" is...
Daniel Hartman, age 26, USA.
Congratulations!

November Quiz Winner
There was NO WINNER in our October quiz.
But in our November Quiz on the Space Shuttle, the clever quiz winner is:
Fred Pellerito, from the USA.
Of the almost 100 people who finished the quiz, only 4 had it correct. Of these, three are over 50 years old. Three live in the US, and one in Canada.
Quite interesting, considering Hypography has visitors from more than 25 countries every day, and the average age is about 30. So I guess most of you need to read up on your space history. http://www.hypography.com/i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif
Anyway, congratulations Fred! The book on The Space Shuttle is on its way.

Search Engine Problems: Solved
Hi all
I made some "important" changes last night and forgot to check that everything works...so the search engine is currently not working. http://www.hypography.com/i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif
I've enlisted the help of a friend and it should be up in an hour or so.
Tormod
UPDATE: Thanks to my friend Asgeir the search engine is now up and running again. Thanks, Asgeir!

User Survey
Hi everyone -
it's about time I ask you folks what you think of Hypography. I have put together a "user survey" which I hope you all take the time to complete. Your input will be invaluable when it comes to planning future changes at Hypography.
The survey is located at (link removed...outdated!).

Server move finished!
Hi folks -
after 2 weeks of endless problems trying to move Hypography, I have finally managed to get it all together in a new location.
This also marks the end of Hypography's residence at a dedicated server - we are now proud clients of Crystaltech Web Hosting, Inc., a professional web host which has provided tons of helpful advice during the transition. A big thanks to them - and if you are looking for an ASP or ColdFusion host they have my warmest recommendations.
Please take your time to click through Hypography's pages and report to me if you see anything strange! Use the Feedback group to post strange occurences - or just comments.
I hope things are faster and more reliabe now - the old server was really falling apart.

ADMIN: Server problems etc.
Hi everybody -
last week Hypography's ISP went bankrupt and since then I have had to work very hard to find a new location for the server, transfer numerous domains, get a firewall, and at the same time I took the opportunity to fix some bugs etc.
I apologize for the server being unavailable at times! It has just been extremely frustrating. Luckily it is summer so traffic is not so high these days...and the forums are quiet. And I do think the server is on a much faster line - so the pages should show up faster, I hope.
I promise new content very soon, Noah has written some good contributions and there's a summer newsletter around the corner.
Thanks to everyone for their patience - and feel free to get in touch if you have comments.

HTML newsletter
Hi folks -
we sent out the first HTML newsletter on April 10, 2002. The newsletter can be previewed at this link.
Please let me know what you think of it.
What is best? HTML or text? I fancy HTML newsletter myself, but only if they are content-driven and not full of meaningless junk...
If you received the newsletter, did it look okay?
