Oh, I agree! I've been to Russia (or the Soviet Union as it was called then) and the Kremlin area is very impressive. There is a lot of great architecture. And there was a lot of *really* ugly stuff...like Hotel Rossija in Moscow...

I agree that Soviet Architecture is unique and beautiful in its own respect, and Russia is starting its architectural revitalization.
Currently, they are constructing a building which will become the tallest in Europe.

But back to Soviet architecture:
One of my favorite concepts was the Palace of Soviets. It would have been the tallest building in the world, and would have been something unmatched by anything else for years to come.

I dunno about you guys, but there is plenty of architecture in post soviet Russia, as well as pre-soviet Russia that is just purely amazing...:

What Americans would call the Russian white house, but more direct translation is more of a "building of the government"

the church at Kremlin square (an amazing shot, i think)

St.Isaac cathedral in St.Petersburg

and a very simple, but very awesome looking church from novgorod, built before 1200AD, simple but astounding in how it feels (and reconstructed after it was damaged in WWII)

I'll post more later, like the fort of Peter and Paul in St. Petersburg, there are a lot more, but i dont have time right now to find pics and post them...

What is ugly is a matter of opinion. There is no objective standard.

As is an oppinion on whether or not a post added in any way to a conversation, or was utterly pointless... If you find Hotel Rossija pretty, then say so....

Honestly, T could have picked on a better hotel though, like Astorija in St. Petersburg

Buut, he was trying to convey that some architecture of the soviet time was not quite as pretty as other, but hell, look at the living houses of the time Stalinka and Khrushchyovka, and there is some really ugly stuff going on there

Why? What if I like that hotel, not allowed? Are you trying to dictate your taste to everyone?

If you like the hotel, not is it that you are free to do so, but it's great, i'm happy for the architects.

Firstly, never in my entire history of posting have i told anyone that their opinion is not allowed, not only do i always respect an opinion, no matter whether i am on the same page, i encourage people to come to their own opinions about things, you have no basis to even ask that question!

Secondly i did not "dictate" anything to anyone, i did not, would not, and will never force my opinion on anyone, i always encourage both free speech and a free will, and that is just a very wrong thing to say!

That is a very powerful term to use, i certainly don't recall saying anything bad to you, i merely pointed out that your post looked like you were post-padding, and it did not add to conversation in any way. You blatantly ignored the question, and your post would add to the conversation had you just simply said that you like the architecture, perhaps made a couple of more examples, story would be different but, and i will continue saying this, added NOTHING to the conversation, other then frustration that i now have to show because you decided to flame me...
