Is that one a real holdout or just a mad architect?

Heh, I was just about to comment on that third pic until B came and stole the light.

That building stands out to me. It is ugly (as Buffy has noted). The framing is what does it. The contrast of 3D surfaces is simply beautiful.

Whoever chose the color scheme should be rode through town on Horse-leash.

I was trying to figure that out myself. I didn't get a good, close-up look at the building itself, but its materials appeared to be fairly new, which made me think that it was just meant to look like an old building engulfed by a new structure.
If so, it begs the question as to what exactly the architect was thinking when they designed it.

Agreed. I also think it's interesting that anyone would have thought to combine a traditional style building with a somewhat brutalist facade.

Indeed!
I love the phrase (coined from your posting of course), A traditional style building with a brutalist facade.

The "brutalist" part makes it imho.

Re: Architecture in Washington DC

How would you describe the Pillars in the architecture?

More Doric, Ionic, or Corinthia?

Re: Architecture in Washington DC

Which ones?

DC has many columns, although I would have to say that a lot that I've noticed recently are Corinthian in style.

Arrow Re: Architecture in Washington DC

I visited DC back in...well, a long time ago. The stairs in the Washington Monument were open then and you could ride up in the elevator & walk down. It's my favorite DC architecture and arguably has the oldest stylistic influence of DC structures.
