To chime in on toe posted ideas here that the mayans were "above" us in any way: It is an interesting viewpoint.

But I would be very interested in knowing how we know this if at the same time they hid their knowledge so we would never find it. So do we just assume they were great or does someone here have extra information that is not available to everyone else?

There's a saying that it's better to keep your mouth shut and look like a fool than to open it and prove it. Maybe the Mayans realized this...
