| Re: Team Maps Dark Matter In Startling Detail I must say I find this article rather bothersome. If the dark matter is invisible, what exactly constitutes the purple areas they highlighted as dark matter? And it dark matter behaves like regular matter as far as gravitational attraction, why does it stand out as a seperate area in these photos, rather than being incorporated into the galaxy similar to regular matter, but with a higher consentration (due to there being more of it)? And comments like Quote:
Are there not other possible reasons for the "lensing" that they are observing other than dark matter? Perhaps the overall gravitational influence over the visible light from it or other galaxies between it and us? | |

| Re: Team Maps Dark Matter In Startling Detail If I understand it correctly the images show the effects of dark matter - ie, different colors equal varying effect. It is actually explained in the article (the ripples in the pool analogy). Quote:
