Evolution

Curious, if humans were to have evolve from something other than being created from God, from what point in time, during our evolution, did we receive our souls?

Re: Evolution

there is no scientifical evidence for the soul.
by soul i believe you mean conciousness.
conciousness is relatively new in our history.

here is a quote from another thread:

i like to think that music is my soul, i am constantly counting in my head, and tapping with my fingers when i'm not directly listening to it. i find music in senses that are not auditory, and it is my true passion. what i love.

if we work with/at our souls, they will live on through LEGACY. NOT AFTERLIFE.
after-life is pureply metaphorical.
yes, this is my opinion. but i believe it was aristotle who said the eye/soul analogy.

Re: Evolution

oh and p.s. since the soul is not a translucent entity that arises from our dead bodies and transports our legacy to a place called heaven, it is also not something that we RECEIVED. conciousness evolved. we still are.

Re: Evolution

Thanks for the update orbsycli. I’ll rephrase.

So, if humans were to have evolve from something other than being created from God, from what point in time, during our evolution, did we receive our consciousness?

O.K. So, from where did our conciousness come from?

Re: Evolution

well it seems to me that it wasn't too long ago (in our history)
we just started logging time 2000 years ago....
we drew in caves thousands of years before that....(i don't know exactly how long)
my guess is, it was a slow evolution. it didn't just appear in someones mind one day.
it took millions of years for us to be able to think the way we do today.
our minds are still evolving. who knows what's next, eh?

Re: Evolution

Do you mean with consciousness the "inner voice", or the fact that you can recognize yourself in a mirror - be "aware" of you own existence?

In my opinion, I have to agree with orby that consciousness evolved to be what it is because there must be some benefit in it. Maybe self-preservation has something to do with it. But we're not alone in that regard. I'm sure dogs and apes and quite a lot of other animals are "aware" of their existence, in which case they'd also qualify to have a "soul", not?
