Seperating DNA from cells

I want to perform some tests with bovine DNA, but I do not know how to seperate the DNA from the cells. Also how do I store the cells/ DNA so that I can use them for more tha one experiment?

Re: Seperating DNA from cells

Here is a pretty straightforward procedure you can do in your kitchen, that does not require any expensive equipment.

Re: Seperating DNA from cells

I am sorry, I have much experience in sorting insects, but not much (close to nothing) in sorting minute water-living micro-organisms.

I guess the method will depend on what sort(s) of organism you want extracted from your sample.

Here are some guesses:

If they differ in size, there is allways filters you can use to separate the different sizes.

If they differ in weight, it might also be possible to sort them after weight by using a high velocity centrifuge

It will probably not be enough to sort them in different species though.

Maybe there exists methods that utilize their biology, so that they sort themselves?

For bacteria, you can grow them on different substrates, specifically tailored for the bacteria you are interested in.
