By the way, in many ways this is creating friction within our society presently. Take, for example, the people in the US who are mistrustful of the UN and the idea of globalization (a paranoid minority, I admit). Also, consider the constant struggle between assimlation and "multi-culturalism" across many societies. Collective consciousness and global citezenship are considered, by some, to be quite eccentric ideas.

Science Fiction has given us some powerful images of possible neo humans, and the ever faster crescendo of evolution-raised-to-the-power-of-evolution.

You get the "Borgs" of Star Trek (one extreme) or the Golden Children of Frederick Pohl, who rework the face of the Earth so that the un-evolved archeo humans can have a safe and entertaining place to live -- where "we" cannot harm ourselves any more and certainly cannot get in the way of "their" higher agendas that we cannot even begin to appreciate.
