Both genders

The other day, my biology teacher was talking about how there are some people who are both sexed. This happens to every 1000 people. I'm just wondering how their genes would look like. A girl has "XX' and a boy has "XY".

There are different levels of hermaphroditism, but true hermaphrodites usually are 46XX. Some have a Y chromosome containing cell line eg; XX/XXY. They can have a complete or partial y chromosome in at least some of the cells. This is from a quick google search, I really know very little about this.

RE: Both genders

Are there any true Hermaphrodites in humans, or other mammals? That is, functional testes and ovaries? As best as I understand it, they are the same body part, under the influence of different commands during development.

Yes, there are true hermaphrodites, although they are very rare. Usually with a testi on one side and an ovary on the other. The external genitalia is not both vulva and penis or one or the other, usually a strange combination of both. Some have been just one small piece of ductwork from being able to fertilize themselves internally.

Would make gym class a bit embarrassing no?

Wow, so they could actually fertilize themselves?! That's freaky... it's like a twelve year-old girl can suddenly be pregnant.

Well the teacher said that they probably don't even know they are hermaphrodites because they can have an external genitalia, but there could be another one hidding inside.

I have mistaken, apologized, and taken the consequences. My only regret, was for how I was bothered by the unchangable.
