A Note On A Favorite Band...

One of my friends was just talking about a band that happens to be a favorite of mine. That's only unusual in that I haven't heard too many people talk about them.

Vampire Weekend.

A Note On "Dollhouse"...

Posted 02-13-2009 at 08:07 PM by Mercedes Benzene (A Peregrination of Life in Notes)
Did anyone else watch the premier of "Dollhouse" on FOX this evening?
It's Joss Whedon's new creation. JW, as many of you know, is my favorite writer/director/producer. He's the genius behind "Buffy," "Angel," "Dr. Horrible," "Firefly," etc.

This premier was... intriguing to say the least. It will be interesting to see how this series progresses.

Cheers for now.

5 things about me

Posted 02-13-2009 at 10:13 AM by freeztar
1. It's the sauce! Any fine dish deserves a sauce. I prefer either super hot spicy, or sweet and tangy.

2. I like to sleep during the day and live in the night.

3. Astronomy is, in many ways, more fascinating than ecology, but it is much less relevant.

4. I have several great stories, for such a relatively young chap.

5. There's a burning desire to make music, yet, paradoxically, there's little to no impetus as of late.

A Note on Tried and True Chemical Procedures....

Posted 02-12-2009 at 05:59 PM by Mercedes Benzene (A Peregrination of Life in Notes)
So, for the fast few months I've been trying to find a way of producing 4-bromoresorcinol with good yield.
Well after trying a whole bunch of modern procedures, I stumbled upon this one on Tuesday.
http://www.orgsyn.org/orgsyn/pdfs/CV2P0100.pdf

It's from 1937, but I used it, and today I ended up with a very sizable amount of product. It felt so good.

It just goes to show that the old and obscure can often be the most appropriate.

reuse

Posted 02-11-2009 at 02:17 PM by Turtle (The way I see it...)
after reading many methods for reusing silica gel packs used as desiccants for my camera equipment, i settled on nuken' 'em in the microwave bath. i put 5 or 6 on a glass plate and zapped them 3 times on high for ~20 seconds per burst and allowing them to cool for several minutes between.. too much at once apparently causes meltdown! all's well that ends dry.
