Gardening like the Wild

Posted 03-28-2009 at 11:10 PM by maikeru
I haven't been on Hypography for a while. Some things happened in the meantime...but I am alive! I needed some time to think about things. I was terribly sick and tired in January, due to toxic air pollution here (look up "oil refinery explosion Salt Lake City" in Google if you're curious). I am further convinced that we, the human race, need to find better ways to live healthily, sustainably, and responsibly. (Sorry, the environmentalist in me keeps jumping out. If you'd suffered the...

The Next Scramble For Africa...

Posted 03-25-2009 at 11:34 PM by Boerseun (Boerseun's potjie stand)
...is being won by China. Hands down.

As you may have read in the newspapers the last week, South Africa made a right ass of itself handling the whole Dalai Lama issue.

Little itty bitty background:

South Africa is hosting the 2010 Soccer World Cup. So, running up towards that completely overrated, overhyped, unnecessary and incredibly expensive event, together with the Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee, SA decided to hold a Peace Conference whereby sport is...

A win for wetlands

Posted 03-24-2009 at 05:25 PM by freeztar
The EPA announced today that it is holding some 100 permits applications for mountaintop coal mining. I'd venture to guess that this would never have happened under the old administration. Perhaps this is a sign of even more environmental goodness to come.

For those unfamiliar with mountaintop mining of coal, it's a very controversial practice by coal companies in which mountains are blasted, and sometimes even leveled, to access the coal underneath. It's typically practised in the...

Veggie gardening

Posted 03-21-2009 at 03:47 PM by Turtle (The way I see it...)
In for a penny, in for a pound they say, so I'm all-in for a ton of veggie gardening this year. Maybe I have even nagged others a bit to get with the program and bring back the spirit of the Victory Gardens of WW II. But hey, that's why they pay me the big bucks.

All in all, nice to see Mrs. Obama following my suggestion.

Hell

Posted 03-17-2009 at 05:55 PM by Iron Willed Skeptic
Updated 03-17-2009 at 05:59 PM by Iron Willed Skeptic
Hell completely discredits christianity. It's merely an imaginary and, as many christians today admit, a symbolic place. I'm perfectly fine with it being symbolic. It's what it symbolizes that gets to me. It's a lake of fire and torment invented ages ago by religious leaders to fear people into believing in God.
If God is loving, why would he damn people to burn in a fiery pit of doom for stupid reasons. And there would be some good reasons for sending people to Hell, if God exists. But...
