Star Wars Epsisode III: Revenge of the Sith

Who saw it opening day and what did you think?

I saw it (opening day, with my friend who's really into movies.) and really thought it was kind of a let down. It's just like all the other Star Wars, you don't get anything you don't expect. The only cool part for me was watching and listening to Darth Vader take his first breath.

Why would it go beyond what's expected? Lucus created a storyline. The general gist of that storyline was given in the first three. The only thing these last few can do is tell the background of that storyline. They complement each other throughout the whole storyline. Did you expect Darth Vadar to somehow turn out to be in league with the Jedi all along and this was all some game of sorts? Or perhaps that the darkside should have won everything in the end?

Re: Star Wars Epsisode III: Revenge of the Sith

I liked it a lot. It was a good movie in the sense of a movie. Sure, it had excellent special effects (you could really feel that the scenes were real, not usual blue screen overshots that have dark fringes around all moving objects), but it also had a meaningful and clear plot that it followed without extraneous stuff thrown in, and there were no "Arnold" one-liners to take away from the tension or pace.

Sure, we all knew who was going to live and who was going to die, who was going to turn evil and who wasn't, but seeing it happen is different than knowing it's going to happen.

PS: My main complaint is a nit pick: unrelated to the storeline at all. But at the beginning, Obe Won and Annikin (sorry, not enough of a Star Wars geek to know how to spell their names properly) were coming in for a crash landing. They had already entered the atmosphere and various fires were raging across the ship, which was diving almost uncontrollaby. But then some "fire craft" began flying along side of it and sprayed water onto the fires: the water moved from through the air as if the two ships were sitting still on the ground. Uhm, hello, the craft are flying through air at some hundred or so miles per hour: water isn't going to just fly straight across the gap from one ship to the other as if they were sitting still on the ground. Air resistance.

I'm sorry, I realize that, but that's why it was disappointing. You knew next to *everything* that was going to happen, and they didn't even do that great of a job building up on the only thing they had going for them... suspense. The element of surprise would've done nicely in this film.

...So I wasn't the only one to notice. I just tried to explain it away though, so it wouldn't bother me as much. I just told myself it was some type of futuristic flame retardant that was fairly heavy so it could maintain the relative speed of the object from which it was expelled.

Re: Star Wars Epsisode III: Revenge of the Sith

I'll have to say yes, if you've seen the others. It would also be worth it just to see Darth Vader take his first, rasping breath . That was one of the best parts of the whole movie for me, that and watching Yoda kick ass again . Oh, and the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin was pretty cool too.

By the way, welcome to Hypography.
