RE: New group: Chemistry

come on, chemistry is suppose to deal with fundanmental particles....

it was the atomic theory that creates chemistry... (alone with alchemy )

its just that nowadays people figure out new fundanmnetal particles...
positive pion + negative pion = "pionium"

doesnt that sound like chemistry?

also, chemistry reaction means that new substances are form, while physical reaction is about change in state....

although particles "reactions" arent like those in chemical.... but the concepts are about the same...
and, nuclear chemistry is very similar to subatomic particle decay and reactions...

RE: New group: Chemistry

Sub-atomic reactions are not the same as chemical reactions. Chemistry is the interaction of atoms and molecules. They may ionise and swap electrons and whatnot, but turning funcamental particles into other particles is physics.

But...Tim, if you *think* something fits in the chemistry category - post it here!

RE: New group: Chemistry

Well I think the structure of the atom and stuff like that should go under Chemistry section.
And then the interactions between the particles should go under Physics..

Well what does it matter anyways? We'll all be reading the forums.

RE: New group: Chemistry

Aki, good point. But we need to distinguish between these because we are getting new group moderators for each of the groups. But until then I'll accept that if a poster thinks something fits here, it fits here unless it is obviously in the wrong category. Fair enough?

Re: New group: Chemistry

an electron CANT be macroworld!!! we wouldnt be able to imagine, understand, chem bonds if chemists didnt work on those tinny fellows... but, as student of chemistry i can say that Tormod is right, becouse this field of cemistry is called Phisics of atom, also some explanantions u can find in books from phisical chemistry... electrochemistry. this field is to me like a phisics=bridge=chemistry. phisics in microcosmos, but here doesnt work classical phisics... we use quantum ... and blablabla !
this is enought
