Baroque game? Any takers?

I'm not an expert player by any means, but the only way to improve, of course, is to keep playing. So, would anyone be interested in playing the Baroque variant of chess? I'm still a nooblet, so I can't link to the Wikipedia article - suffice to say, it's a brilliant variant and I'm dying to try it out.

Any takers?

Thumbs up Re: Baroque game? Any takers?

Baroque chess (I believe you can use [wiki] tags to link to wikipedia articles even before you reach 10 posts).

Looks like a fastinating game. Until now, I’ve not heard of it.

Gimme a day to attempt to learn the rules, and I’ll be up for a game.

I’m also interested in other unusual board games, such as Gess and Rhythmomachy (especially the latter, which I’ve known of for decades, but never managed to play!)

Re: Baroque game? Any takers?

Baroque is fairly straightforward, I've just learned it about three days ago, and entirely from the Wikipedia entry. It seems to be much more poetic than standard chess, which is rather blunt for what is praised as a 'masterful game.'

Anyway. I'll eagerly accept your game, but take your time in learning the game. I just tried to play a game with my father, and it was almost unfair - the degree he knew of the game was woeful.

I've pulled up both games you've linked to, but found them both totally muddling. Perhaps it's because the Wiki page didn't explain the game mechanics? As you are, though, give me enough time to understand the game, and I'll be ready to give it a crack.

Re: Baroque game? Any takers?

I'm interested in playing Kyoto shogi, renge shogi or omweso, none of which are available on any game sites. If either of you, or anyone else, is interested, let's play.
Kyoto shogi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Omweso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I cant find a link for renge shogi, it's a larger version of Kyoto shogi and has the additonal feature that captured pieces can be used by either side except in the case of checkmate. If any of the rules are unclear, please ask.

Re: Baroque game? Any takers?

I'm not familiar with either game you've mentioned, but I'm looking them up right now. (Although I actually don't know the rules to shogi itself, so shogi variants may be a little while off.)

While this thread I'd like to keep around the subject of a Baroque game to be played, there's no reason not to talk about other variants. But.. do shogi and mancala variants count in the chess forum?

EDITATION
CraigD, let me know when you've understood the rules to your satisfaction, and we can begin playing, eh?
