I voted no,
I have never had the equipment to text nor have I seen the need as I have a cell and e-mail;

Until a month ago, I was in your boat. The kids got me a cell phone though so I could call for help from the woods , and it has texting. I voted <6 though because I'm still a newbie. RU2 In self defense of my own ignorance, I sent this made-up one to the kids: ILYBTTS Sending photo texts is fun. Not so fun is keying in a long message, sending it, and getting a message back the receiver isn't good enough so your message was cut to 160 characters. I have even got some text spam! Avast that! Mom said don't talk to strangers.

Re: Do u text?

Texting can be bad for the nerves.

I got one last year from a cousin, saying "Sitting in the bus station waiting for the pain to stop."

He had a history of heart trouble, so I tried calling him. No answer. I got really worried and called his wife. She tried to call him, got no answer, drove to the bus station...

He hadn't heard the calls because of the press of people and the noise they were making. They were all in there for the same reason. RAIN, not pain!

I have found texting to be very good for noisy situations.

Edit: I've also found that I need to read the post before mine before posting.

Re: Do u text?

I tend to send more emails than text messages, but text messages are great when I need a more urgent response (I don't really like talking on the phone). I've found the only way to get a response from my sister on that day is to send a text message which she responds to quite promptly, whereas she only checks her email once a week. My husband and I are on a plan where we don't pay for text messages to each other so we make good use of that at times.

Re: Do u text?

I tend to text mostly to my wife or colleagues. Not a frequent flyer.

I have found texting incredibly valuable for situations such as:
When I am at the store after my wife sent me there, and I forgot what it is I was supposed to get

All very good responses, and I can see where there would be times that texting would be far better then cell and more convenient then email.

But at this time I only carry the company cell and I am not far enough up the food chain to have text or email on it.

Re: Do u text?

I assume that this is phone texting, so I'm <6, but I'm at least 1-2 per day: its much easier and more reliable than voice mail in a lot of situations.

The funniest thing to me is that most phones these days really do try to get you to spell using English. The kids all have to turn this feature OFF 2 tlk lk tht...

We'll have to do a separate poll soon on Instant Messaging which I do all day long because virtually none of the people in my company are in the same location: we run the whole organization by IM....

I think the best evenings are when we have messages, things that make us think, but we can also laugh and enjoy each other's company,
