Which entry page?

We need your feedback on which entry page to use.

Either the current one, which is the Forum Index.

Or - the Portal page (click "Portal" up at the main menu). This was the old way.

The Portal page makes it easier to keep up with our recent news.

What do you folks think?

Re: Which entry page?

Opening w/ the portal I think is a bit better. I tend to overlook the news unless I am directed to the portal...(Sorry C1ay, you do a great job, but I get headed straight to the forums and forget the news pieces, which are often very interesting...)

Re: Which entry page?

I usually hit the forum link before the portal page even loads, so I suggest just loading to the forum index.

Re: Which entry page?

Doesn't matter to me. I usually check both pages, but the "Latest Articles" are in the upper right hand corner if you like to start from the forums, which most members probably do. Crud, now I want to change my vote to Forums Index, oh well, live and learn.

Re: Which entry page?

I think the important thing to remember is - what do newcomers see first? A portal page might be more inviting. Then when they get more used to the site they might opt for the index. So we could make the portal page the default page, yet have the forum index link up just as it is now. You oldtimers can just bookmark whatever page you want anyway.

Just my 2c.

Re: Which entry page?

54 views and only 9 votes. Do we count all the views with out a vote as "I-don't-care"s?

If for no other reason, I like the portal page since it makes announcements, like our recent "technical difficulties" issue, more visible. OTOH, I often come in with a bookmark for "Today's posts" when I want to access the discussions since the read/unread marker for posts doesn't really track what's actually been read or not.

Yeah, I guess I could update my bookmark. It's one of those things you don't think about since it still works

Re: Which entry page?

I voted doesn't matter, because I prefer forum list, but I think for new members it's better the portal so I guess I should have voted something else ie portal, because the new members are more important than myself....
