Do You Commute??

Do you Commute?
Doing your part to save energy and reduce traffic congestion?

It really depends where you live.
Europe has a wonderful Public Transportational system!

In the US and Australia, things are a bit more spread out.
Big Cities have subways and railways and busses.
But not all, and they aren't always that great.

My community here has grown tremendously within the past 15 years.
Portland has probably the best above ground commuter train program currently.
It would have been nice if there was the money to cross the I-5 bridge with it.

I ride my bike quite a bit around, unless the weather is piss poor.
I'll take the bus sometimes too; but then you deal with "Bus People"
you know?
I'd prefer not buy gas basically...

So, DO YOU COMMUTE?
Carpool perhaps?
Why and/or why not??

Re: Do You Commute??

I gave up my car four months ago. I will not buy another personal vehicle until we've taken what I feel to be a large step in the right direction.

I take the train, and it can get me to within "john walking distance" of wherever I want to be. Or I don't want to be there.

Re: Do You Commute??

Should this be "Do you use public transportation?" or something? Those are all commutes. Just the method differs.

And no. Because they do not have public transportation where I live.

True TFS; aaahhh

taking the train or bus is commuting... so yes, I wish I could reword it a bit
Riding my bike is commuting without public transportation..

So, yeah, I see what you mean.
Hopefully people will get the gist.

Re: Do You Commute??

I work from home many days. When I do go to my office I currently get dropped at the station by my wife (who is on her way to work)then walk a kilometre to my office at the other end. I shall likely drive to work about half the time when I get around to buying another car.
The train is more relaxing, less expensive and provides me with some exercise to get to it.

Re: Do You Commute??

Yes I commute, but only because I have to, if I had a car I would drive it - it actually turns out only a little more expensive (for just the petrol) to drive than it is use train/bus and is also infinitly more convinent!

Re: Do You Commute??

I actually don't have a job, so my travel is chaotic, but minimal. So I do tend to drive most places when I do have to go somewhere.

I'm spoiled, I admit it and am looking forward to being one of the first hydrogen powered car drivers

Re: Do You Commute??

I choose not to pick a choice from your poll as it does not consider driving to work a comute.

Public transport is 15 mi from home work is 25 mi and starts at 7 am. From the nearest point to my home the only bus that even get's any where near work leaves at 6:30 work is at 7:00 and near work is six blocks!!!! (which is quite a sprint!!!!)

Re: Do You Commute??

Every weekday to and from Uni. I catch nearly all the public transport avaliable to get home/uni. First tram to the train station then the train to the bus station then bus to home. In Melbourne the trains are plagued with delays, the trams are frequently late and the buses never on time. I can't maintain a car right now but once I can I want a Toyota Prius
