Its Important to Recycle. It saves Energy and Resources.

Its not that I have bitter intentions, whatever that may mean. I just dont understand why I should care about people who havent even been born yet. Im quite sure that the people alive 100 years from now will give me no consideration at all, why shouldnt I return the favour?

As for what I can offer, well this is a science forum, and it never hurts to hear an opposing viewpoint.

I read your words, but I do not trust them. When you were still a child, someone found you worthy of their caring & consideration. It is what people do...naturally. No person is autonomous, not even the hermits who must rely on other people to leave them alone.
If you are as selfish as you claim, start recycling to reduce the size of garbage can you need so you save some money that you can spend on yourself & no one else.

If governments really cared about the environment, theyd impose a tax on wasteful packageing. That would do more than I ever could to reduce wastefulness.

Excellent observation Turtle. I'd normally say that natural selection will sort this all out in the end. Problem is, since we are such an interdependent ecosystem relying on one another, even those of us who are doing the right things will be killed (by nature that is) due to the lack of concern and ignorance of those who act like this.

Responsibility is each of ours, as will be the consequences if major changes are not implemented globally immediately.

I am neither ignorant of the need for recycling, nor do I flaunt my lack of concern. I just dont care. ill be dead long before it becomes a serious problem, and Ive yet to hear any convincing argument for why I should care. I have an open mind on the subject, as I have on all subjects, and am prepared to be convinced.

Turtle, someone may have cared about me when I was a child (my parents, I supose) but I didnt ask them to. I feel no sense of obligation towards them. In fact, Ive not bothered to speak to them for the past fifteen years.

Your post is bit hippocritical.

It already is a serious problem . One that can be fixed by recycling!

What ideas can you come up with panjandumb to make money, by helping fix a problem?? I think recycling is a great way to go. Aluminum cans alone.

Yard Waste Debris is a newer recycling program that goes on here. They take peoples yard scraps and mulch it all up and let it break down.
They can then turn around and sell it as Compost...

Only it requires a lot of investment capital and space. I do it in the yard, on a small scale, and after a couple years, I add it to the vegetable garden.
