Question Shreddin'

Over in Portland today they have a 'shred day' going for people to drop off personal documents for shredding.
I shred at home (used to tear up by hand! ). Do you shred? When & where? Is ID theft a problem in your little corner of the world?

Re: Shreddin'

OOOOHH!
good Poll Turtler... (don't put me out of a job )

With all the F*ing Tweekers running around everywhere, shredding becomes important.
Due to ID theft as you mentioned...

YES.
When my Grandpa died, we found he had about 5 paper shredders. Not that he really needed them, he was just going senile and buying crap he already had..

So Yes!

I use one he bought and shred
some of it I put in the trash as opposed to recycling
but,
why take chances...

Good thing is,
I am not important enough to be worth bothering about...

Re: Shreddin'

I recycle, but I don't shred.

Most of our documents are electronic though and there's a system in place to safely back things up, but not to delete anything. We're pack rats...better have tons of gigabytes of documents than wipe anything out.

Crosscut shredder, mix well a whole lot of shreds in a plastic bag, spray with a garden hose. Massage.

The government optically unshreds documents - scan in both sides of all the chaff, discard blanks, let the computer sort by albedo, geometery, and text connectivity (possibly in parallel via optical Fourier transforms). If you crosscut you make the job much harder by at least [(N^2)-N]/2 where "N" is the number of pieces. If you crosscut shred and then wet pulp, they've got to want it real bad.

Re: Shreddin'

Yes, I do, always!

Fact: My sister-in-law owns 1 home.
Last year she received a letter from Utah Power stating that they were shutting off power to all 3 of her residences because 2 of them were months past due to the tune of $1400.00. After going to the police, they found that the other 2 residences had been rented out by, as neighbors stated, illegal immigrants.
Upon further investigation, they also found that this same group had bought and defaulted on a car, electronics, and opened up numberous credit card accounts using her identity. Her credit was destroyed and what was really sickening was that SHE had to obtain an attorney and prove that it was not her!!

To this date, they have not arrested anyone.

Shred, Shred, Shred!!
