Re: How many hours do you sleep per day?

What do I do if it genuinely varies between 4 and 12 hours?

I love to sleep! 8-10 hours here. usually 8-9 at night and prefferably a 30 minute cat nap sometime in the day if I can. and I usually can... Post Caffeine buzz and after lunch siesta.

Siestas are very important in Latin countries...
for example:
Another mention of my stays in Venezuela.. Everyday between 12 - 3, All businesses would shut down, people go home, have lunch and take a nap. Then go back to work.
I never could really understand that. Theres no way that would work here in our Ultra fast paced Go-Go-Go mentality.
It took some getting used to. I found it boring most times, because there was nothing to do. except eat, read, watch TV, talk, and sleep.
Part of learning other Cultures.

However there is plenty of evidence supporting a short Nap in the afternoon.

Thats another Marveling Mystery of the brain and body. Sleep!

I mentioned this in the cool animals thread. Okapi's sleep a mere 5 minutes daily; and stay totally alert! while Sloths and Male lions sleep practically all day.

S' Funny...

Re: How many hours do you sleep per day?

I try to sleep at least 10 hours each night during the week. If I sleep less than 8, I can barely function the next day. Various doctors reckon I suffer from fibromyalgia and/or so-called yuppie flu. I look forward to weekends mainly because then I can sleep more. Ideally, I would like to sleep about 14 hours a day. My cat really enjoys all the sleeping that goes on in my house.

I lived in Spain for a year, and found their lifestyle much more agreeable. I really liked the siesta time, even though I didn't always sleep. I also liked going to bed later and getting up later. Maybe there's just something "wrong" with my circadian rhythm.

Let's say for too long. I suffer from insomnia, or a variety of it, which makes it really hard for me to fall asleep, and when I finally do, I wake up really fast. So a normal night for me includes about 4 hours of sleep in total, although it is not continuous.

A side effect of sleeping problems is bad bedtime habits - I often stay up very late even before a workday because I dread going to bed.

I've had sleeping problems all my life.

4-6 hours, which in the long run is probably not enough for me.

Re: How many hours do you sleep per day?

I am like Tormod. It is particularly bad during the summer, though the situation has improved with air conditioning. If it was a steamy night growing up on the farm, I would lay in bed til 3 in the morning before I finally fell asleep, and generally my dad was waking me up at 5:30.
Now I tend to try and be in bed by midnight and generally get up by 6, meaning actual sleep time is between 4 and 6 hours.

Re: How many hours do you sleep per day?

I started working the graveyard shift at albertsons so my sleep scedule is all fucked up. I take a 2 hour nap right before work and after work i sleep for a good 4-6 hours. But I have to say, working graveyard is a great way to fucking up your sleep scedule.

geez Chacmool, you are a walking compendium of conditions.
So thats how you know Spanish amiga. Vivias en Espana.

fibromyalgia is still a little misunderstood and mysterious. I wouldn't call it "yuppie flu". I know two people who say they have it. Isn't it a bit sporadic , that feels like a blanket of pain wrapped around you? good days and bad days?
are you sure its not psychosomatic?
I should do a little research on it... Anywayz, one of my friends who has it is my age and he got a Medical Marijuana card for it. The other is an elderly lady who battles the episodes of intermittent pain.

Sleep requirements are different for different people obviously... 14 hours? whoa! ... Duermes mucho
I love sleeping next to my kitty cat.

(ps, thanks for listing the keyboard functions for Spanish in the "foro".. I am going back and writing them down.

Sweet Dreams Chacmool.
