Re: What is education?

Speaking of education, I was thinking of completing a major Physics degree, but was worried about the types of jobs I could get, so what jobs could I get about Physics and maybe Biology?

Hey, P, this isn't the place to ask. Start a different thread, don't hijack this one, ok.

Re: What is education?

Education should be a life long pursuit in quest of satisfying the insatiable thirst for knowledge accompanied by intense curiosity................Infy

Re: What is education?

Thats not the question. In an ideal world, education would the persuit of knowledge and democracy would be rule by the people. The OP asked what education is, not what it should be.

Re: What is education?

Should be could be what Infamous meant as is. The pursuit of knowledge is also not a good definition of education, but a description of how one obtains an education.

My suggested definition was the result of learning, to which you may add, the result of a pursuit of knowledge (but sometimes a pursuit of knowledge does not result in an education, so I like to stick with my first definition).

Re: What is education?

The result of learning is knowledge, not education. Education includes knowledge, of course, but that is not its primary purpose. It exists to pass on social and cultural norms to the next generation, and as such is a tool of social control. The enlightened mind has no need for education, since she can learn what she needs herself, without needing to be told what to think.

Soooo, are you saying that history and the lessons learned by those which have endured it are of no value????

And to what ingredient does SHE give credit for all this Enlightenment if not the history of her own experience. BTW, if not for the tutorship of her elders, SHE would not even know how to speak a language....................Infy

Re: What is education?

You are putting words into my mouth and either willfully ignoring what I write or failing to understand it.

I never claimed knowledge is not important. I merely take issue with your simplistic view that education is about imparting knowledge, when its primary purpose is indoctrination and social control.
