Suggestion: A new type of contest

Hello Hypography Staff and Members,

I've noticed that the recent attempts at photo contests haven't really gained much traction. Further, and not to take anything away from the amazing contributions we've had from our wonderful members, nor from the winners of any of the competitions, these photo contests really aren't saying much when one takes first or second place in a field of four or five contributors.

That said... I have an idea for a new type of competition.

Best short-story through smilies. No text, no pictures, just creative use and placement of the Hypography smilies to form a cohesive short story.

You give everyone a fiscal quarter to provide their entries, and limit each contributor to one post. Then, you close the thread and open a vote. Membership chooses the best across a 2 week period (with frequent bumps from the organizer).

Cheers.

Excellent idea!

...although it doesn't seem like something I'd be good at. I'll still vote however!

You enjoy the idea, but are unsure if others support it. This is perhaps your version of a "bump" asking for more opinions to be shared?

imageAstronomical instruments needed to answer crucial questions, such as the search for Earth-like planets or the way the Universe expands, have come a step closer with the first demonstration at the telescope of a new calibration system for precise spectrographs. The method uses a Nobel Prize-winning technology called a 'laser frequency comb', and is published in this week's issue of Science.
