Wireless Netgear USB drive..

Every once in a while i will come home to see my internet is down. Ill take out my USB and plug it back in. The second i plug it back in, my PC crashes, and continues to crash on startup until i take out the USB card. Sometimes ill get lucky and put the card in at the right second in the middl of the startup and it wont crash and everything will go back to normal. Ive tried putting the USB stick into another person's PC and it does nothing to theirs...

Sorry i know this isnt the computer help forum but thought it fitted best here, thanks

Re: Wireless Netgear USB drive..

Don't worry, we try to help out when we can.

Its likely that you've got driver problems. Most USB devices do seem to need them, even with XP and Vista, although I've had good luck with plain old thumb drives. M$ would recommend reinstalling your OS, but that's always pretty drastic, I would certainly check your USB and hard drive device drivers, and also check your BIOS USB port settings (may work better if its set to 2.0 only).

Also be sure that you use the USB device removal routine when taking it out. Machines can get very cranky if you just yank the thing out without warning (and with a drive, you'll easily lose data).

Good luck,
Buffy

*Bangs head*

Well, how exactly do i use the remove drive for a USB, and better yet how do i know which usb drive i click i want to remove as there is uhh... about 9 on my pc?

I am only a tad bit familiar with that feature because i used to have to change drives on my old laptop (CD->Floppy) but i never used it because it always said it was safe to remove the hardware.
