Cool Virii and the media

It must be a slow news day...CNN has spent the last hour doing nothing but covering the release of a new computer virus which they identify as a worm and were indicating that it was Zotob, but that it only affects Win2k machines. They're not specific about what the worm is, nor whether its Win2k desktop or server, or what the means of infection is. Zotob has 3 new variants in the last week, one of which is an e-mail virus and the others are TCP buffer-overrun exploits.

Any one run into this one yet?

The most amusing thing about this is really that CNN had one of their tech reporters showing his computer rebooting over and over again, but you could not see much of anything on his screen. Oh by the way the stock market dropped 120 points today...but that's not very sexy...

Cheers,
Buffy

I doesn't surprise me that it dropped 120 points (though that's not too big a deal) since people can't afford to buy anything after filling their gas tanks. I'm sure that all the Saudi Arabia is really booming though.

It chewed up Capital Hill and a broad swath of industry in North America and Europe.

Microsoft Works.

Most anti-malware vendors updated their data bases three times today. As with stateless terror and being up to your butt in alligators, you cannot drive a bung into the broad end of a funnel. Fine Microcrap a $billion/month until it writes a secure OS. Discharge a 12 ga. shotgun into the bellies of virus writers. Send a message, make a statement. shove Active-X up Bill Gates' nether aperture. Sideways.

Like my idiot government is good for anything beyond stealing wages and munificently awarding stupidity, corruption, sloth, and profligate reproduction of the lowest classes.

Re: Virii and the media

i work "on behalf of" HP and they are all in a tizzy about this infection.. so far everything has been quite. more productivity was lost updating and restarting (xp machines) than peeps getting infected.
