fools and their money..

X-fi

Extreme fidelity

information from INQ

i'm wondering if this thing includes 64 megs of RAM as well as can reencode on the fly just what kind of audio setup people will have to make the best use of all of this technology.

Re: hardware accelerated... audio?

A sound card with a processor is a great way to enforce DRM, disallow playback of OggVorbis filetypes, and introduce proprietary API sets to the hardware. Think "WinModem" for audio.

Re: hardware accelerated... audio?

refrigerated foods used to be cost prohibitive. they plan on offsetting the cost by cooperating with other manufacturers to drive down the price.

Re: hardware accelerated... audio?

yeah, the cards will be the first implementation of the chips.

where xbox 360 should have been that first run and most spectacular implementation selling cards by xmas time like hotcakes.

however MS apperently doesn't care about releasing a 499 console with nexgen dvd, audio, ram, video... makes me wonder what exactly makes it "nexgen" at all. xbox 1.5.

also since KK and camp sony are all filibuster about ps3 they are claiming the console will be expensive, this covers their bases, in that if MS raises 360s price they can lower ps3s launch price, if not they can keep adding hardware, like X-fi (it is too late for this i think) and sell at a higher price point obliterating all competition.

other implementations could include such things as IPtv set-top boxes, integrated audio solutions for mobos, and smart cell-processor based televisions.
