Why? Do you think the artists that produce the music want you to have it for free? Do you have any talents that you would like to donate to society for free?

Everything costs something these days. Or atleast, that's what they want you to think.
The truth is that a human should not be depraved of art under the condition of not having enough green pieces of paper to exchange for a copy.
The truth is:
Free music is truth.
But not so much anymore. Musicians are forced into needing green pieces of paper as much as we are. So, my rule of thumb is this:
If you have the money to spare, then by all means, buy your music. But if you can't afford it. It should be free.
*cough* torrents! *cough cough*

So it doesn't matter what the artist wants or what the law says? It should simply be OK for those that can't afford what they want to take what they want? Frankly I'd be ashamed to say such a thing in public. I'm glad I don't share your point of view.

This statement show a healthy amount of youthful idealism crusted with economic ignorance. For economic uplift there must be an exchange of value at all levels. The artist creates something. That is how he invests him person time and fortune. Those who appreciate the investment pay the artist so they can enjoy it. That is how the artist recoups his investment. Money is nothing more than a standard medium of exchange so that we have a basis for abstract exchanges of value. If I was a chicken farmer, I might want to pay for my new swimming pool with a truck load of chickens. But the man who built the pool for me has no use for a truck load of chickens. So I need to pay the pool builder with something that will be useful to him. And that is where money comes in. Money is no more the enemy of society than blood is the enemy of the body. And denying blood to a part of the body kills it, to the detriment of all.

Re: Mp3 Free Music- Iriver U10
There are plenty of sources of FREE music. Lots of people publish their music for nothing. Check out http://www.garageband.com/ for an example. No, you won't get Billboard Hot 100 but you'll get an amazing variety of music of stunning quality - if you look around. And it's 100% legal.

I'm a poor teenager that came from a semi-poor family. At the moment, I barely have enough money to eat.
If I actually bought all my music, I think I'd probably have a total of about 10 good CD's. definately not enough to satisfy my musical mind. And I wouldn't be nearly as good of a musician as I am today.
I understand that money is a universal solution to trade.
But putting a price on art is something that I've never agreed with. Art is such a beautiful thing. And it's so good for your soul. It should be shared. Not sold.
I really would appreciate it if people would stop making me feel like i don't deserve any of my music because I'm a poor scumbag.

I should probably just drop it, but I am too stubborn.
Think of the art in terms of energy. There is no free energy. And there is no free art. Some artists choose to give away their work. This is their choice, not yours. The consumer can decide what he is willing to pay for something. The provider can decide at what price he will depart with something. If you want things for free, then find things that are available for free, because somebody else has generaously footed the bill for you. But taking from someone at a lower price than they have agreed to is theft. Plain and simple. And no amount of idealistic doublespeak changes that fact.
I am baffled by the way so many people today feel they are entitled to the work of others simply because they exist, or how they exist.
