Re: mp3 on linux?

But when I downloaded lame what do I do? It is not just a player to install so I'm a bit lost (as usual when I have to do something new on linux)...

Re: mp3 on linux?

Try this:

Or use mplayer:
MPlayer - The Movie Player

I remember having some issues with all audio players on linux. Somethings XMMS would work, sometimes Mplayer, sometimes nothing.

Re: mp3 on linux?

lame is a library, most modern players will use it if they can find it. Try installing a player, like amarok or something, it should find lame and you should just be able to play mp3s..... magically

Re: mp3 on linux?

I never had any problems with, and would definitely advice on using XMMS.

Check out xmms.org for the latest version.

Re: mp3 on linux?

So what I did (on gnome, fedora core 6) was to install lame by typing in root:
Code:
% ./configure
% make
%make install
and it worked fine.
The n I ireinstalled amarok (to have the magic you say) and it still doesn't work, but in the amaraok faq they say that playing mp3 is easily solvable

Why can't Amarok play MP3s?
It can! Chances are you're using Fedora/RedHat linux, they don't ship with MP3 decoders by default (due to patenting issues). Solution: Alt-F2, gg:redhat mp3 kde, ENTER
but after typing gg:redhat mp3 kde I get the following error:

Could not open location 'gg:redhat mp3 kde'
The default action does not support this protocol.

No idea what it means...

Re: mp3 on linux?

Amarok — Fedora Solved

shoot i forgot sanctus, amarok needs a gstreamer plugin for it.... anyways, under fedora follow the steps outlined in that link and it should work for you
