EU: release the net

the USA has control of the internet, but the EU (european union) wants the USA to give control to the UN. EU says developing countries are being left out. USA says the move could threaten the security and stabillity of the net. what do you think?

just saw segment about this tonight on Fox News.

Re: EU: release the net

what do i think, i think they have no idea of what in the world they are talking about and need to learn wht the WWW is, thats what i think. There is no single country that controls the web, it is like a cloud, well that is exactly how it is depicted in pictograms if you've never seen them, it is exactly a cloud, nobody owns clouds, especially ones which size you could not possibly measure, and you can see the shade on the ground, but you could not possibly judge the volume.... The EU needs someone techy to tell them what they are asking.
And no it will not do anything for security of the web, maybe a windows patch will, but not te legalities of control issue...

I think you misunderstand. Right now, ICANN http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICANN through a partnership with the US government, directs net traffic. The UN/EU wants to shift from an American non for profit company to UN control. This is especially interesting considering ICANN is trying to privatize and cut their ties to the US government.

Re: EU: release the net

I dont see a thing about ICANN in the first post, so i just rambled upon whatever the post said, i know what he meant though, so it was purposeful

I don't know. If Window's user base continues to shrink, eventually viruses for other platforms will begin to spread.

Re: EU: release the net

The UN continously proves it is unfit for such responsibilities.

if i have to explain it to another person.... darn, ok in 2 words or less it is 100 000 000 times harder to write a virus for other oses then it is for windows, so however people will attempt, 99.999% will fail. if you dont agree, please make your case in a new thread and i will gladly describe to you why you are wrong, I just dont have the time at the moment, nor do i think that this is the right place to do it, so please, be my guest, we'll be civilized about it, i will explain with proof, hopefully pictures, and maybe even charts, that is if you are lucky...
