Temperature Fluctuations, 1900-1920

Hi there,

I was recently looking at global temperatures within the last few hundred years, using the picture shown below to gather some results. I noticed their was a temperature drop at around 1910, i have been trying to find possible causes but can't think of any, i was wodnering if any of you could help. Any replies will be great.

Really?

Where'd you obtain that knowledge, man?

Amazing that you would know something like that!

Turtle knows *everything*!!!

But seriously, if you like History or Discovery Channels, its hard to avoid running into a program at least every other month that talks about the Tungushka "event"....

Boom!

Smile Re: Temperature Fluctuations, 1900-1920

I'll quibble with Turtle's conclusion though: If you look at the graph, although there's a local minimum at 1908-9, the 5-year moving average seemed to start at 1900, which predated the event. Who knows what method they used to compute the 5 year average (it could be the 5 years around the event, which means that specific events effects would be hidden, or 5-years back (which is what most, but not all, computations use). Back to the history timelines...

Someone might want to check the 11-year sunspot cycle which is normally highly correllated with such data...

Running hot and cold,
Buffy
