A genetic study suggests that the majority of genes shared by English, Irish, and Scots people stem from the same ancient population, coming to the British Isles thousands of years ago, and that recent "invasions" of people such as Scandinavians, Angles and Saxons (Germanic peoples), Celts, and Romans (Italic peoples) did little to change the overall makeup the indigenous people.
