Re: Ritual origns of entheogenic drugs

Neuro, now you're starting to pollute the History forum with your DMT-obsession. I've followed your link and read the page. And one thing mentioned there needs repeating here:
Quote:
DMT exerts its effects by competing with serotonin for receptor binding sites.
See, that's how it works. So now you know. It screws up your brain's normal activity by plugging the receptors, screwing around with your synapses.
So what you think might be a "good high" is just what you actually experience - scrambled brain circuits.

There's nothing mystical, nice, or creative about it.

The human brain is by far the most complicated thing in the known universe. I wouldn't advise you or anybody else to start screwing around with it on a whim.

Come on, now.

Maybe there's some creativity to acknowledge in the schemes people whip up to acquire said entheogens...here's a quote from the linked paper: [Red high-lighting by moi]

Re: Ritual origns of entheogenic drugs

Our brain is a brilliantly dense thingamajigger,

and when you throw in another existing chemical which just so happens to be a tryptamine and a psychedelic . .

we get to experience something we couldn't by just sitting there and watching TV, so to say.

So, actually, there is something spiritual, and mystical about it

'cause this is our existence, this is our existence slightly altered...see strips of DNA fly out of my wrist,
and just the overall feeling of a psychedelic experience is absolutely amazing.

Let me jot down a note of all notes and say that DUH
DON'T DO THEM A LOT.

I feel bad for those piss drinkers,
they should have learned to pick some for themselves.

Actually, why didn't they just give everyone the boiled serum?

Awkward tribes.

I love our opinions

In fact quite the contrary, there are two religous communities based on Ayahuasca, Two thirds of the South American spirituality is based on the consumption of DMT.
It has been shown that DMT is responsible for mystical experinces.
Through out history the Pineal gland has been known as the seat of the soul.
Im finished attempting to explain this amazing thing over and over again.
DMT doesnt scramble your brain's signals, thats retarded.
Your brain has synapses specifically for the activation of DMT.
there is going to be alot of misinformation around the net.
Its up to the individual to know what is true and what is not.
Humanity for the most part fear the unknown.Anything they cannot understand becomes taboo and bad for you.
In the 60's they said LSD gave chromo damage, NOT TRUE.
For a long time certain intelligent people have put in jail, murdered and made out to be a nutcases.
No one said the path to self discovery was going to be easy.
And with that note, i feel i have brought this interesting topic to a point where now it comes down to the individual and their path.
Something tells me that the Mushroom eating shamans(psilocybin) of Mexico have been keeping this as a secret for a long time, for a good reason.
And that reason is slowly, by the marrige of science and Mysticism coming into the light.

Terrence said...PLANT:PLAN:PLANET. as a means of discovering our multi dimensional selfs.

Is our future an atomic mushroom cloud?
Or is it the mushroom growing out of Shit?

Thanks for tolerating my rants,.
Peace

Rene Descartes in Treatise of Man was the first to call the pineal gland the "seat of the soul" believing it is unique in the anatomy of the human brain in being a structure not duplicated on the right and left sides. This observation is not true, under a microscope one finds the pineal gland is divided into two fine hemispheres.

Neuro, with all due respect, that was a particularly dumb post.

But I have to thank you for the above, at least, seeing as I've sold my soul years ago and could never find the damn thing to hand over. At least now I know where to look. You think a sharp knife and a phillips screwdriver'll do the trick?
