I thought so too. But I've read all over the 'net today in analyses about the situation that China is fearful for antagonizing the situation, because they will be flooded with North Korean refugees. So China, like all countries, will be looking after their own interests first.

Precisely, it is in China's best interest that the despotic regime of Kim Jong falls so reassure China that NK assistance and trade is readily available once Kim Jong is gone.

Re: North Korea's got the Bomb!

my thoughts (i am not a politician btw):
if it comes to world vs n. korea then the results could be devistating. Since they have the bomb now i hope they dont abuse their power and bully any asian nation without nuke.

It could be helpful if new dictator comes in power but as for now, since n.korea has isolated themselves i do not see any way to establish peace b/w them and us.

Yah I think I want to start up a topic to discuss what a country would go through after being attacked by an EMP purposed bomb.

It could shut down so much so quick.

I agree with this strategy as the best I've heard yet. I stayed up 'till 3am listening to all this and just woke so I'm not up to snuff yet on the current state of affairs.
Several things come to mind not mentioned here.
1) The bomb detonated was very small, around 400 to 550 tons of TNT yield. (By comparrison the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 21 KILOTons and on Nagasaki 15 KiloTons http://www.warbirdforum.com/hiroshim.htm)
2) Testing a nuke and putting it on a missle delivery system are very different propositions.
3) North Korea has tunnels all over the DMZ and might detonate a bomb under South Korea
4) North Korea has a fleet of submarines capable of delivering even a large nuke to ports along Western North America. ( Recent declassified Russion sub logs indicate the Russians sailed right into Puget Sound undetected! )
5) Japan has lots o' plutonium stored and can construct nukes in fairly short order if needed.
6) If we move surface ships in to blocade N. Korea, we can expect to see some of those Chinese Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missles.
7) US needs to stay with the 6 party setup and not act unilaterally.

Well, at least this has slowed the BradJalena news.

Re: North Korea's got the Bomb!

I was considering another stratagy.

As I understand it North Korea has alot of internal conflict.

The international community could fund the known citizens within north korea that are against the dictators regime.

Funds such as money, and weaponry.

Causing an internal civil war in secrecy would definatly keep the military busy and infact turn everything Kim Jong has built against himself.

Internal conflict destorys its own country in many ways, and does not cause complications for other countries like going in for war. Its more likely north korea would not nuke itself.

Kim Jong starves about 3,00 citizens to death every month and any one even remotely suspected of opposing him from within is executed. He could care less how many more starve.
Another considerable threat that a blockade may forestall is Kim Jong selling nukes to the Islamic terrorists who already have a fatwa allowing them to use nukes on the US. Not only does a blockade stop things going in, they stop things coming out.

Re: North Korea's got the Bomb!

Here's my opinion on how things will play out (in abbreviated note format).

-US (and other countries I may add) do not want N. Korea with nukes.
-US will want to take action against N. Korea.
-China will try to persuade US and others to take a calm, diplomatic approach (perhaps 6 nation talks). This will upset US and others, who wish to take more serious (sanction OR military?) actions
-Japan will want to start a nuclear program for intimidation (and quite necessarily, protection)
-US will endorse Japan's plans, perhaps even finance them, or provide equipment / nuke plans. (Some analysts predict that Japan already has everything it needs to produce a nuclear weapon within 1 year if necessary)
-China will obviously not like the idea of Japan gaining nukes, and will therefore reconsider its stance with the N. Korea situation.

Because of this, China and Japan will be the two key players in this conflict. What I believe we'll see is this "triangle" or sorts between China, N. Korea, and S. Korea/Japan.
It will be interesting indeed to see how things play out.
