Lightbulb Intro

Sorry it's taken me so long to introduce myself - I travel a lot so don't have much time to visit the site. But someone, presumably Tormod, suggested it was time I said hello; so ...

Hello. I'm a 53 year old Australian; I've been working in Asia for about 20 years, mostly with an Australian company promoting Australian education overseas, and some time on my own doing business consultancy in China.

When I'm not working I'm reading (almost anything), eating out with friends, watching movies (again, almost anything, 'though I prefer European, Australian, New Zealand and Asian movies to most of what comes from Hollywood these days), listening to music (classical), and, very occasionally, doing something physical like visiting a gym.

I also enjoy thinking, hence my interests in science, philosophy and politics, and among the sciences, my fascinations are with quantum theory, unified theories, and Astronomy.

My personal creed, I guess, is a mix of Buddhist and Taoist although I don't count myself a believer as such - I did a few years of intense meditation in Thailand and India, many years ago, and this 're-shaped' me in ways I'm still discovering. My "grounding principle" is "do no harm".

If I regret anything, it is that I did not learn enough math to be able to delve deep into science. I believe that, these days, the most creative and artistic work is being undertaken by scientists and that possibly the greatest "work of art" revolves around the attempts to establish a unified theory.

My own theory is that the universe and our body/brain/mind are both inextricably linked and mirrors of each other and that while this link arises in part from the fact of shared "star stuff", I think the profundity of the link goes far beyond this basic sharing so that when we truly understand what the body/brain/mind is and how thought arises within it, i.e., get beyond just the description of the phenomenon in terms of electrons and energy, we'll be close to understanding how the universe originated and, maybe, how it will "end". In fact, we'll probably come at it from both "ends" so that quantum theorists and astronomers will bring us closer to understanding ourselves and neurologists will bring us closer to understanding the universe.

I wish you all health, and joy in the sharing of life.

The reason I really want to reply to you is because I am fascinated by New Zealand and would absolutely love to take a Mountain Biking trip there sometime in the near future! I hear it's beautiful.
What is it like???
Sorry about all the ethnic violence goin' on in Sydney.
I can't really blame those blokes. I know all arabs aren't bad guys, but I can sympathize with what the Aussies 're saying.
We can't go to their countries, but they want to come over here. It has to be a two way street.
Plus I love Rugby!!! It's a great sport! Football is #1 here, and I love it too!!!
Long live Beer!
