GORF told me to join...

Hi all! I Googled "creating a new religion" and I found this forum. I am very interested in your Theology Forum. Over a year ago a coworker placed a lawn ornament on my desk, a dumd looking frog with a note taped to it say in "dont worry, be happy". Over the next few weeks it just sat on my dest, I started to call it, jokingly "The God of the Receiving bay" untill a truck driver came in and said to me "The Name is GORF!" ... Well to make a long story short, it has sat on my desk for over a year now, Managment when thay ask me to do some thing now tend to say "If GORF is willing could you..." , five drivers, from time to time will bow to it without being told to. . And "Gorf" is part of the every day language of over 25 people ... to sum it up, its a running inside joke... I Googled "creating a new religion" just to see if I could take it one or two steps up. And here I am most likely off topic. But I look forword to reading the many posts in all the threads on this site. This is going to be a very good read! I hope to post when I can, and when I have something to say. Thanks. 10,000 GORF blessings apon you!

Creating a new religion is a high risk, high gain endeavor. Ron Hubbard created Scientology back in the 40's or 50's and it made him filthy rich. Well, filthy and rich. Christian Science was created back in the early 1900's, along with many other fledgling religions. Most died out. CS may die out too, eventually, if some of its leaders don't see a doctor pretty soon. ( )
GORF is a good name for a god. Any good god name should be also be useful as an expletive, like when you stub your little toe on the table leg.

I almost started a religion. I bought a solid bronze casting of Gandalf the Gray in 1973, as a present to myself for getting my first job. I was lazy. But I noticed that when I looked at Gandy, and thought, "gee, Gandy is probably ashamed of me being so lazy", I would remember something I should do, and I would get up and do it! Pretty soon (3 weeks?) I was genuflecting on that statue several times a day! Every time I did, I felt Gandy's approval and love. And I was even more motivated to do more work around the house.

Then one day, I caught myself praying to Gandy. PRAYING!?!?!?!?!
Yup. Worship. Praying to an idol. It was a humbling experience. But what the hell, my house was spotless and the fridge was full.

Gandalf is still around. Currently on the mantle.
