| My First Post "Terra Preta" Hello All:
I am interested in many science issues. I am a forester and range conservationist by training and profession. I work for the US Forest Service as a developer of a decision support application. I am the science leader for this application.
I live and work in a small town in NE Oregon. My initial reason for getting into this is Terra Preta (Amazon Dark Earth)on a personal issue that I am interested in. I own a few pastures in the local area. These pastures have been heavily irrigated for over 100 years. They are very leached out with relatively low organic matter and fertility. I am interested in attempting to produce large amounts of charcole from local wood slash. I am looking to solve two problems.
The first is improving my pastures long term and second in finding a way to utilize forest biomass to reduce forest fire intensity and in the local Wildland/Urban Interface. In a way that is economicaly viable for the public and private lands.
Thanks
