Re: Homonyms and Their Grammatical Heirs

I remember from childhood this riddle sent to a discussion programme on radio:

What is the difference between a bald man, Prince Charles, an orphan, and a monkey's mother?

A bald man has no hair apparent
Prince Charles is an heir apparent
An orphan has nary a parent
A monkey's mother is a hairy parent.

Hoarse with laughter, I fell from my horse over a hairy parent jest.

Re: Homonyms and Their Grammatical Heirs

One of the most embarrassing mistakes of my teenage years was discovering, on receiving an essay back, that I'd written, "She whore a red dress"...

The whore's red dress, with its trim waist, embarrassed him at the waste of fabric in the shoulders.
