Paint 3.1 Artwork

Hello there, chimichanas y chimichangos.

It is moi, the ever-humble, here to expose you to some works of art,
composed on the original,

Paint application, in Windows 3.1.

Sadly, when Windows 95 came out, they reworked Paint, removing many of its most useful (and undocumented) features, making it very difficult to produce more of this art. I was so afraid that all these pictures were lost forever, when we moved three times in two years, and my collection of 3.25" floppy disks were lost. That is, until last week, when I found them in a box marked, "Paperwork, Bills & Personal".

So, for your artsy-fartsy consideration, I hereby present,

The Pyrotex Paint 3.1 Collection.

Here we have:

The Machines of Mars -- a dark and tension-filled tone poem that hints of 1960's B-rated science fiction movies.

Forests of Zanzibar -- an ethereal interpretation of an alien landscape set to African colors.

Sacred Mountain -- from out of your deepest dreamscape, a mountain clothed in night, lit by clouds of flame, an icon of hope cuts the sky, and silent sentinals pay witness.

Re: Paint 3.1 Artwork

Paper Cut -- A symphony of textures, dithered patches of fabrics, and a fractal hand that screams, ouch - paper cut!

Guns and Horses -- Pastel patches, a quilted homage to handguns and horses.

Turtles In Love -- Symbols and shapes, with a pair of moired turtles, I think.

Re: Paint 3.1 Artwork

Rejection Fantasy 1 and Guns and Horses are my favorites.

What features are you missing from the original Paintbrush? I'm quite sure there is something out there now that can do it.

Sadly, , the Warpbad on this machine (not mine; i don't have my own) gives me a conversion filter failure message and all I get when I say go ahead anyway is the text title. Why does the cyber world deny me the privilege of viewing your art Good Knight!!!??? The same befell me with your most excellent (by all accounts) Excel fractals. Mon dieu! Well, I do know from the Deteriorata that whether I know it or not, the Universe is laughing behind my back. Prolly where those images you have of me in the .doc file that I can't see were taken from!

Re: Paint 3.1 Artwork

Turtle, to view the pics without Word (or if it just isn't working for whatever reason), download the files to your computer and then upload them to this site.

Online viewer for PDF, PostScript and Word

Walah!

It's not the best as it is slow and does not fit on one screen (at least at my resolution), but it's free and it works.

Re: Paint 3.1 Artwork

Pyro - if you want to have any of those files in current MS Paint and you can't import them for some reason, just open it as big as you can on your PC and press "Print Screen". Then open up the graphical editing program of your choice and press Ctrl-V. You'll end up with a full screen capture, but you can just trim the edges off.

Re: Paint 3.1 Artwork

Please allow me to clear up some misinfo.
I can open all the Paint 3.1 files in "modern" Paint.
I can then save the files as .bmp or as .jpeg or as .gif

The .bmp files are too big for Hypography to upload.

The "uploader" cannot SEE my .jpeg and .gif files. I think this is a bug, and have reported it.

Now, the problem with "modern" Paint app is that several of the "easter egg" functions, which were undocumented in Paint 3.1, and were apparently removed from subsequent versions, are crucial to this style of art-making. For example, there was a variable size circle-shaped tool which would change any specified color pixel to any other specified color, as you passed the tool over the picture. Way cool. And M$ changed the color palette, adding a number of new colors. I think this was the transition from 16-colors to 24-colors. (?) You may think that sounds good, but it messed up the ability to erase or change specific colors in older files. And the Shift key used to force whatever tool you were using to straight paths that were horizontal, perpendicular or on a 45 degree slant. There was another function triggered by Shift-Control-Alt on the Eraser tool, but I can't remember what it was -- only that it was awesome. And the "modern" paint spray tool is a piece of crap compared to what it was like in Paint 3.1.

Anyway, that's why I can't do art in "modern" Paint the way I used to in 3.1.

I'll post a few more as I get time. I have about 60 in all.
