Plan on spending at least a week in Orlando/Daytona Beach then!
I've seen one shuttle launch and one landing, both were sheer luck, the launch when a week delay meant the launch just happened to occur the day after a trade show I was at in Orlando and I was staying over to go to Disneyworld...the landing was last year when it just happened to land when the not-so-little-one and I were there on vacation.
These things are delayed *most* of the time, so the only way to be sure is to plan on the delay. Unfortunately even that's a crap shoot because the delays can be "let's roll it back into the VAB..." and it'll be another month before it goes off...
If you can though, it's truly an unexplainable event. When you're 5 miles away and the air *vibrates* you know it's something that's just plain outside of normal experience...
At any rate, good luck!
I suggest you gentlemen invent a way to put a square peg in a round hole. Rapidly,

Re: Hypographers Who Meet
Yeah.
I missed one of the Saturn V launches, Apollo 12.
I forget now why me and my roommates decided not to go. We had the money, the time and the incentive. Somehow we talked ourselves out of it. I wish we hadn't.
We didn't know then that we would never have the opportunity again.

Re: Hypographers Who Meet
I subscribe to the NASA newsletter that tells about the upcoming launch schedules. It includes the rocket launches in addition to the shuttle. I really want to see the shuttle go up, but I will settle for any space shot really. I am going to save my scheckles and take the boys to Florida to see the last shuttle launch.
Don't want to let 28+ years of opportunity pass me by.

Re: Hypographers Who Meet
A little OT but last night was a rare night launch of the Space Shuttle, if you drive down to corn cake inlet (you need a real 4X4, not a soccer Mom SUV) you can see the Space Shuttle as it climbs up over the horizon. Even from my stand point it's an impreserve sight. Alas last night it was heavy overcast with rain and you couldn't see a local super nova much less the Space Shuttle.
