Smile What's Goin On in Our Real Lives

Lessee...
my avatar name is... uh... Pregnotrim? no. Picotrack? no. Pyrotex?
YES!
And I used to post at this website called... Hypnofloozy? Whatever.

Anyhow. I appear to be back. I'll double check that later.

The surgery went 100% and my shoulder tendons have been reconstructed. All healed up with no scars or stitches. No pain. Therapy going well.
I spent two and a half weeks at TIRR, The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research. Without my left arm, I am pretty dead in the water, and so I needed 24x7 care, including the ever-beloved bedpan and hydraulic hoists. Indignities were heaped upon me, but I responded nobly with such witticisms as high fever, uncontrollable shivering and projectile vomiting. In an attempt to mediate my initial depression and anxiety, they gave me little blue Zoloft pills. However, when I began to complain of seeing little silver spiders in my peripheral vision, they stopped that. By the end of the first week, I was back to normal and on the road to recovery. Except for the bedpans.

I have been home with Gwen as my care-giver for almost three weeks. We were given a lot of training by the therapists at TIRR, so Gwen and I do rather nicely, in spite of the fact that I am NOT to use the left arm for another 4 weeks. Strength building therapy begins then. However, I CAN use both hands, as I am nimbly demonstrating right now.

How come I am not posting on Hypogratuity every day? Higher priorities. There's dressing and undressing, pooping and peeing, eating and drinking--all of which take 3 times longer than before. There's the unending exercises. We leave the house once each day to keep from going crazy. There's email and paper mail and managing a very tight budget, as I'm on short term disability. I have started a new commitment to build a new and workable filing system at home, and organize all the paper I have accumulated over the years. i have committed to creating a budget and living within it.

We have successfully sold the house and the money is in the bank. Debts are being paid off, and crredit cards torn to shreds.

And I got a letter from the ARES Corporation: contingent on their win of the contract, I am being offered a generous package to come work for them as a MANAGER (oh boy, oh boy!) on... {drumroll, professor} the CEV project. The Crew Exploration Vehicle, replacement for the Shuttle. Somebody pinch me!!!!! Work starts on October 1. (contingent)

By then, my left arm should be in good enough shape to put on my new black pin-striped suit, the royal blue shirt and my mega-power tie, show up in me NEW wheelchair, and begin kicking butts.

Complete recovery should be by Christmas.

Do not despair, dear friends, I shall be posting anon. As soon as my other projects are in place. I have not forgotten my compatriots at Hypnopottamus. I'll be dropping in from time to time. Thanks for all the letters and phone calls.

Pyrotex/Nelson

Very relieving to hear you are well Nelson. Perhaps for some of your rehab you can make a wall clock from one of those bedpans. We here at Hypochondriography have missed your wit. (I am so poor at recalling names I may have referenced you somewhere as Winston rather than Nelson ; my bad. )

You *know* you will have to invite me for a tour of the premises, right?

So good to hear from you my friend. Take your time to get well!
