New Theory Of How Viruses May Contribute To Cancer

ScienceDaily (Oct. 24, 2007) — A new study suggests that viruses may contribute to cancer by causing excessive death to normal cells while promoting the growth of surviving cells with cancerous traits. Viruses may act as forces of natural selection by wiping out normal cells that support the replication of viruses and leaving behind those cells that have acquired defects in their circuitry. When this process is repeated over and over, cancer can develop say study authors, led by Preet M. Chaudhary, M.D., Ph.D., professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

Consequently, similar to the role played by natural selection during evolution, excessive cell death, rather than its absence, may be a defining force that drives the initial emergence of cancer," said Dr. Chaudhary. He named this model the Phoenix Paradigm in which cancer theoretically arises out of the ashes of dead cells.

I don’t think it’s possible to “bite the bullet” on the subject of cancer, or other disease. Biting the bullet implies bearing a painful experience to complete a brief, well-defined task. Treating cancer is none of these, other than often – but not always - painful.

There are many threads here at hypography, and many times more discussion in the general and medical community at large, because there are many kinds of cancer and cancer treatments. It’s not realistic to expect all of the discussion can be condensed into a single thread.

It’s important to understand that the term “cancer” is a very broad, symptomatic definition, not a specific disease. Thus, asking “what cures cancer?” is similar to asking “what fixes cars that won’t start?” In most cases, a lot of discussion must follow, and to be effective, needs to narrow itself to a particular patient/car.

I don’t think this is much of a contest. The question is somewhat analogous to “which were better – modern boats, or ancient?”

By any practical, statistically valid approach, modern medicine is much more effective than ancient in curing cancer. Within a single human lifetime, chances of untimely death following timely treatment have decreased from nearly 100% to nearly 0% for certain kinds of cancer.

Of course, the Concord can’t cure cancer (or do much of anything these days but sit around in museums ). The ABC TheScienceShow transcript just presents engineer Constantin Coussios’s account of how he was able to apply his work on reducing the sound intensity of the Concord – a bad thing – to increasing the sound intensity of ultrasound generators to levels that can be used to destroy tissue – a potentially useful thing.

“Ultrasound ablation” is becoming an increasingly popular therapy, particularly with non-malignant but unpleasant tumors (eg: uterine fibroids) that previously would have been left untreated because possible surgical complications posed a greater risk than leaving them untreated, or was too expensive. Big posters advertising such treatments have been appearing recently on my local busses and trains.

Engineering is one of those neat fields where ideas commonly cross disciplines, not always from the mechanical to the medical. These days, mechanics rarely disassemble a jet engine before probing it with a fiber-optic probe essentially identical to the kind used in laparoscopic surgery.

I was recently given this book after being diagnosed with Giardia. The book claims that ALL cancers are caused by parasites. It is quite fascinating once you start to look into it. After I read some of this book I found some medical journal articles weeks later that indicated that a cancer was caused by a parasite. (sorry, I don't remember where I saw them, but if I find them again, I'll post some links)

in 1990 Dr. Clark discovered the true cause of cancer. The cause is a certain parasite, for which I have found evidence in every cancer case regardless of the type of cancer. So lung cancer is not caused by smoking, colon cancer is not caused by a low roughage diet, breast cancer is not caused by a fatty diet, retinal blastoma is not caused b y a rare gene, and pancreatic cancer is not caused by alcohol consumption. Although these are all contributing factors, they are not THE cause. Once the true cause was found the cure became obvious. but would it work? I set a goal of 100 cases to be cured of cancer before publishing my findings. That mark was passed in December, 1992. the discovery of the cause and cure of all cancers has stood the test of time and here it is!

Curious (and not a little angry), I checked on Quackwatch, a website dedicated to debunking medical frauds. Sure enough, Hulda Clark has an entire section devoted to her. Before you buy one of her books, at least read what others have had to say. Understand that, for her to be correct, literally every physician and nurse you have every met would have to be part of a conspiracy to hide this truth. If a few zaps of electricity could cure cancer, then literally every drug company, every family doctor, every Nobel prize winner for the past half-century would need to be in on the lie. Or, if that seems a bit much, it could be the Hulda Clark is a quack. Ask yourself which seems more likely.

I still plan on reading some more of it, but it seems that, as Craig said, it is not so simple a problem.

Just last night, I had dinner with friends who told me about their brush with skin cancer.
MY Male Friend had a strange spot on his back that seemed to be changing.
My Female Fiend (partner of said male) was concerned and despite the reluctant, skin caner specialist asked for a biopsy.
It turned out to be a surprising (to the Doc) malignant tumour
(My female friend is a Taurean, female Witch with pre-cognition)

The researchers also found a decreased risk in women who consumed large amounts of the flavonoid luteolin, which is found in foods such as carrots, peppers, and cabbage.

Having recently been through this with my hubby(2 surgeries this year) and ongoing with my sister(GIST 5 yrs now) and bro-in-law going thru courses of chemo now(lung/neck/prostate). I have lost both grandmothers, 3 uncles and an aunt who has breast cancer now, so I am KEENLY interested in all things to reduce chances of getting it, act wisely if diagnosed and comfort those who have it. I am the poster chilld for alternative health care in my family with sufficient enough change in me for even the most hardened denier to back down. Another friend who had breast cancer three years ago was put on a bio-dynamic, organic diet by her oncologist.(!)

Skin clinics give free checks here, although they would not have picked up my friend's skin cancer unless his wife had a 'bad' feeling' about it and therefore insisted on a biopsy.
The doc was very surprised that it came back malignant; she wasn't.
