Two feet! We barely got a sprinkle... It's good to have a warm place to enjoy the winter months. Going to catch up on reading for the next few months? Biggest problem here along the Wasatch Front in Utah has been the air quality. During winter, there's the cold, dry air and heavy air pollution from cars. In the spring, we get dust storms from dirt piles left by rampant development.

Utah Lake is also basically dead. It has several million or perhaps billion carp, and is contaminated with all sorts of nasty stuff. No one likes to talk about it here or wants to consider environmental rehabilitation and remediation. What I have heard is that there are plans for a causeway to be built across it to further open up more land for development. It makes me depressed.

But I am doing great otherwise. It looks like I'll be visiting my sweetheart over Thanksgiving and watching her dance in a large dance competition. I'm making travel plans now.

I seem to be doing well, considering that we have two feet of snow. I've migrated to the basement, where I have a small apartment with a complete kitchen, a comfortable bed and rocker, room for the guinea pigs, and a bunch of electrical outlets. How are you? You were having some environment-related problems, weren't you?

Yes, find myself coming back to terra preta now that I don't have to focus so much on work, and can throw myself a bit more into academic and hobby things like gardening. It is spring after all. Perfect time to get out the trowel and charcoal.

Acknowledged. I see you have got to the gardening already.

For those living in hot and arid climates, maintaining a garden and watering it efficiently and effectively can sometimes be a big problem. Here in Utah, we have 40-43 C days during July and August combined with the dry desert air. And increasingly like other places around the world, we are suffering from drought and water shortages, making water conservation more and more important. Every day I see ads on TV asking us to conserve water, and rightly so with such a precious, commonly overlooked commodity....

I haven't been on Hypography for a while. Some things happened in the meantime...but I am alive! I needed some time to think about things. I was terribly sick and tired in January, due to toxic air pollution here (look up "oil refinery explosion Salt Lake City" in Google if you're curious). I am further convinced that we, the human race, need to find better ways to live healthily, sustainably, and responsibly. (Sorry, the environmentalist in me keeps jumping out. If you'd suffered the...

I'm leaving on the first of many trips. This one will take me to California to visit relatives. I know I've been away and promised to be here more, but been busy again with 1st block of summer term which I finished. I had joined the UVU dance team, broke up with my ex-girlfriend again, and just about killed myself in the meantime with weird accidents. I have a strange life sometimes... I have the next 8 weeks for vacations, gardening, writing, and programming, so let's see what I can do with the...

With Thursday, I ended my last week of spring semester at my new university. I may not have mentioned it before, but I got tired of restrictions on my freedom and scientific research at BYU, and have restarted school after a long hiatus at UVU, where it's perfectly OK to drink coffee and tea. For those who know me well or have read my rants on caffeinated drinks, espressos and green tea are my guilty, but healthy, pleasures. Bright minds need a lot of coffee and caffeine.

Anyway,...
