| Understanding | The upcoming generation!!!! Alright so i can't wait for this generation to become president, it is still around what 30 years from now? maybe 20? For one, not that its a big deal to me because i don't like marijuana much but i'm almost positive it will be legal soon. It practically already is, almost everyone that drinks smokes. And almost everyone drinks. It is more rare to find those that don't engage in drinking and smoking then to find those that do. now this may serve as negatives, so let me throw out some positives. We are the generation of Pirates! We don't have to buy cd's or dvd's anymore, we have had the capability to download music and movies for awhile now, but it wasn't until recently that the iPod video has came out and has made it that much easier to put both onto one device. 30 bucks or so more and you can plug your iPod into your tv and watch the movies. This generation is smart, we are scavenging old resources and not letting them go to waste, we are pirates. interesting fact, we are smarter and getting smarter. Yet we are more lazy. We spend our creativity on figuring out ways to be as lazy as possible and do as little work as possible. (repeating myself their to emphasize it). I mean most of us are walking on water through highschool without even struggling, is this the best you can do, we are lazy because we aren't challenged, bring on more!! (of course you are supposed to challenge yourself..but indeed we do, the people im referring to aren't taking below their abilities classes, we are taking honours, and gate and what not, and still just walking on water). We are also procasanators and we are damn good at it. We do our best work when we rush it all at once...or so we think because your merits give us A's and B's for it. i've lost my tangent..what do you think of our generation?

![]() ![]() | Re: The upcoming generation!!!! i think that your generation is probably no different than any other generation that has ever come before you or will come after you. But that is just my thoughts. I really cannot think a generation that was unique, per se, just generations that were put in unique situations. Every generation has something that they can point to and say that they did, however, the generation itself if just made up of normal people. |

| Understanding | Re: The upcoming generation!!!! It is foolish to assume that just because you drink and smoke that "almost everyone else" does. I don't drink or smoke, and I can say the same for almost everyone I know. That's because people usually surround themselves with people of similar interest. I do at least know that there are plenty of people, however, that do use marijuana. I know this because I am a police officer and I find it quite often - more often in certain areas than others - either the drug or the telltale signs of use, seeds, paper, the smell.... Luckily, unless I am with someone else, I have the option of looking the other way if it's a very small amount. It is hard to enforce the law completely as it should be enforced when I personally feel that marijuana should be legal. In my position, it is easy to get the impression that alcohol is a much worse drug than marijuana. It's very rare that the people involved in the major accident we have to get Medflight in to carry the pieces of the bodies to the hospital for were high on weed... it's usually alcohol. So it's hard for me to justify why marijuana is still considered so illegal. In response to your other issues, I agree that there are a lot of lazy young people out there. They seem to be able to get whatever they want whenever they want it without having to work very hard for it like everyone else had to. I see a lot of spoiled kids. Can't get spanked anymore... where is the discipline? No respect for anyone, including themselves... Yeah, I can't wait for them to be running the country. I'm sure there were plenty of older people who said the same thing in the 60s and 70s, too, though, and we have terrific leadership today, now that they are in control! ...(/sarcasm) ![]()

| Understanding | Re: The upcoming generation!!!! niviene i def. enjoy your post, especially since you are a police officer. and vending. yes i understand, we are just people, there isn't much uniqueness but whoever touched on the different sitatuons that is what i am talking about, different situations cause you to act differently...no we are not different or unique but what we are presented with and the way we handle it will make us seam so? Who knows. As for pirating, its always been around, so thats nothing new or unique, but now it is through technology there is no people being killed or threatened over it..except the pirates themselves are threatened, yet where is the action?! last but not least, these are my opinions...and you guys have yours. ideas, theories and opinions

I do know, however, that we tend to see what we want to see. All of us - I'm not saying you, but myself included. I also moved around a lot - a LOT. When I was in school, I was all over the place - all over the United Sates. And, although I knew "most" kids were not smoking and drinking, a large chunk of them were. I smoked. I only tried marijuana once - and I might have dipped into more often, except that the one time I did try it, I tried to cross a busy street, and I was unable to "wake up" enough to trust myself to safely step off the curb... I felt like I could easily have ended up hurt or dead, and I didn't like the feeling of being out of control of my own mind. If my experience had been a better one, I probably would have turned out differently. I had a lot of friends who always seemed to have weed on them - and everybody knew it - and almost everyone in my group of friends smoked. However, unlike them, I never missed a day of school (even despite all the moving), and that gave me a chance to see the big picture. I know that kids in highschool tend to think that what they do now won't matter later on - if they even bother to consider the later on part. Of all the different highschools I went to, there was always a large portion of them that smoked and/or drank, and then a decent sized chunk who seemed to always have marijuana (why did I always end up being friends with them? Hmm!). But, I always noticed that most kids don't do that. They might try it once or twice, but not all the time. Even my little sister asked me if she could try one of my cigarettes once - she is now the epitome of health and in training with the national crew team for the olympics. Things may have changed over the last 10 or 15 years since I was there - and of course, they have - but I think back to the 70s when everybody thought smoking was OK for you, and weed wasn't thought of as such a bad thing as it is today, and a lot less people smoke today than back then. Anyway, I don't feel that drinking and smoking in highschool necessarily makes someone unfit for public office later in life. Most people do grow up sometime - hopefully not too late in life - and realize they have a life to live and want to work at making it something. A lot of us make mistakes (or we just see at is "having fun") in our younger years and go on to be better people because we've learned from it. Perhaps it makes us better parents, too, eventually. Just my opinion. As long as kids today can take these things they are doing and learn from them instead of just wasting their lives, then I have no problem with what they do. I want my own children to experience all that life has to offer - I know they're going to want to try things that I don't agree with them doing, and I know I can't stop them, so all I can do is try to share with them that opinion, as well - to learn from it. If they can keep their grades up, I won't be too upset if I find out they tried weed a few times or got wasted at a party - as long as it's not every night. We're alive to live, right? ![]() What do you think you would say to your kids (someday)?

| Understanding | Re: The upcoming generation!!!! probably the same. i want them to expierence, but to learn from their expierences. of course i may get hypocrtical, i already know this from having a younger brother or sister, i wouldnt want them drinking or smoking because i think they cant manage themselves, cuz i've seen a lot of people fuck up, but you know what i have to trust they will make the right choices, im not going to make laws because i cant trust that people wil make good decisions, morality shouldn't be a law.
