![]() ![]() | equality What is equality? If one is a good citizen and the other is a criminal, what kind of equality will be there? IMO thses two people can not be equal. What about people who are well educated and ignorent people?IMO they too are not equal. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: equality People are different in all respects. Equality attempts to eliminate any cultural structural bias that favors one group over the other. Obviously there are implimentation problems with this ideal. It tends to create the one size fits all mentality. This reduces the negative differences but also takes away the positive differences. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: equality In the political and social sense, equality today is generally taken to mean equality of opportunity. It does not mean an entitlement to the same material benefits and financial rewards. It does mean an equal chance to seek to gain these. It does mean equal treatment before the law, equal opportunity of employment, equal opportunity of education. The extent to which this equality is practically made available varies within Western society from the socialist model where the cost of education, health and legal support will be provided by the State, to ensure equality; to the more conservative model where one has the right to acquire the means to gain full access to these services. It is a matter of personal judgement which variant is the more effective (or equal). |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: equality Does retaining subcultural identity perpetuate inequality? For example, if I tried to fit in somewhere but had a hard time due to my unique cultural background, I may find comfort returning to birds of a feather. But this subcultural group attachment perpetuates that which makes me different. It is like the solution perpetuating the problem. |
